Our Wedding

We met by lucky chance in 2020. Andy was visiting Charleston for the FIRST TIME EVER to celebrate his friend Ben Wie's Bachelor Party (one of Andy's Groomsmen- thanks Ben)! At the time, Andy was living in St. Louis, MO completing his residency program. He was treating patients in the emergency room while Caroline was representing clients in the criminal justice system. During the beginning of our relationship, there were many calls outside the St. Louis hospital/ Charleston detention center. We became supports to one another during the unique days of the COVID Pandemic. A friendship and mutual respect developed despite the distance. We discovered we have many shared values, including serving ALL people whether in the medical or legal profession. We also learned we had many of the same life goals. A bit of a yin and yang couple, so many of Andy's strengths are Caroline's weaknesses and vice versa. After visits and calls, in 2022 Andy completed his program and took the LEAP of faith moving to Charleston. Beach Bonfires, Oyster Shucking, Questionable Boating, Kayaking, Dolphin Sitings and Ocean Swims have been some of the best parts of living in the Lowcountry. Over the last few years, Caroline and Andy have traveled to 14 States together (not to mention 9 weddings)! CA, TX, OH, MO, NC, GA, SC, FL, D.C, MD, VA, RI, ME and MA. Lots of adventures and stories from swimming with Manatees to Disneyland. In January 2024, we traveled to New Zealand. Andy's amazing kiwi friend Kate allowed him to realize his dream of being the celebrant at her wedding. We were at the "stag" and "hen" parties for her wedding when Andy was asked "when are you proposing?" Andy replied that he "actually had a ring in his bag!" There was a NZ huddle to figure out the perfect proposal spot! Andy proposed at a secluded overlook at Lake Rotokawau. He amazingly remembered the twists and turns to find the overlook! Very early on, Andy told Caroline "I'm going to marry you!" She replied (thinking he was crazy)"we will see!" Here we find ourselves- he was right!

What is the attire/ dress code? Elevated Cocktail (Black Tie Optional).&nbsp;&nbsp;Men: A tuxedo or suit.Women: A floor-length gown, dressy cocktail dress, dressy separates or pantsuit.Headwear: Holiday "Church Hats" or "Fascinators" are Welcome (don't worry, enough guests are committed, so you won't be out of place, have fun).***Ultimately, the attire is elevated (not casual), but wear what makes you feel confident, comfortable and happy. We are just excited to see you!

Is there parking at the ceremony &amp; reception? Ceremony: Yes, there is plenty of free parking at Bethel United Methodist Church.Reception: Yes, there are two ticket public parking garages right by the Gibbes Art Museum ("The Queen Street Garage" - 93 Queen Street) or the ("Broad Street Garage" - 84 King Street).** The Ceremony is only .9 miles away from the Reception.

What will the weather be like? In early December, Charleston, SC, experiences cool and mild weather.&nbsp;The average high is in the low 60's and the average low is in the mid-40s. Charleston's heat and humidity are over.&nbsp;This is a very comfortable time of year to walk around and explore. Will the event be outside?&nbsp; The ceremony will be inside at the church. The Cocktail Hour will be inside in the Gibbes Rotunda. Dinner and dancing will be outside in the Lenhardt Garden under a tent. Will I be cold? No, we have been told that with many people under the tent, it is very pleasant in early December. We will have space heaters that can be utilized if necessary.&nbsp;We will see what mother nature does (fingers crossed). Our goal is for all of our guests to be comfortable. If you tend to be cold, please dress accordingly.

Will transportation be provided for guests between the ceremony and reception? No, the ceremony, venue and hotels are all so close downtown that no shuttle is necessary.&nbsp;For some guests, it will be an easy walk through historic Charleston. For other guests, carpooling from the hotel would be best. For others, Pedicabs &amp; Ubers are abundant on Friday should you need one.&nbsp;

Are Children Invited? Yes, this will be a child friendly wedding (just don't let them knock over the cake... although that may make a good story.. ha). Between Andy and I we have 8 beloved nieces and nephews.&nbsp;You are welcome to bring your little ones or have a parent weekend away.&nbsp;Friends &amp; Family are doing both options. We will have a "kid friendly" food station.&nbsp;Additionally, there is a classroom right by the reception area that we will have a babysitter in after dinner should they need a break.
